MITSUBISHI'S performance halo car is being fast tracked to Cairns to star at the city's annual show next week.

Mitsubishi Australia agreed to a request from dealer Ireland Mitsubishi to send one of the legendary Evolution X turbocharged all-wheel-drive sedans to the Far North in time for the show starting on Wednesday.

Ireland Mitsubishi sales manager Paul Pisani said the car was due to arrive by car carrier today and would be detailed and prepared
for its debut on the company’s stand on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

He said the company convinced Mitsubishi to send the
sedan so they could make their display extraordinary this year.

“This is pretty special for the Cairns show,” Mr Pisani said.

He said Mitsubishi had given Ireland’s special permission to
exhibit the car before its on-sale date of Monday, July 21.

Mr Pisani said the show car was a red $59,490 five-speed manual base model.

The Evo, as it is dubbed by enthusiasts, is the 10th version of the road-going rally car.

It is sought-after by drivers for its blistering turbocharged performance and all-wheel-drive grip and handling.

A shark-nosed front end inspired by jet fighter air intakes, a distinct wedge-like profile and taut lines highlight the new-generation Lancer design.

Mitsubishi is remaining coy about performance figures but expect a low five second time for the sprint to 100km/h.

There are two variants. The $59,490 entry level Lancer Evolution or the upmarket $71,690 Lancer Evolution MR, with an optional performance package available on the base model.
