Giggles, girls & vampires
Sex and the Single Vampire by Katie MacAlister (Hodder)
A semi-continuation of the storyline from MacAlister’s A Girl’s Guide to Vampires, this novel is all about a vampire’s search for his ‘Beloved’ and the unlike candidate he stumbles across.
Sex and the Single Vampire, unlike other novels in the supernatural fiction genre, has its tongue firmly in its cheek and it’s the humour that makes this such a fun read.
Allegra Telford is recovering from a very bad marriage and trying to prove to her boss that she really is a ‘summoner’; that she has the ability to see, raise and bind ghosts.
In an attempt to save her job, Allie ends up in London hoping that the ancient buildings and site will enable her to actually raise a ghost.
Wandering around the city late at night she ends up running into an extremely handsome, but terribly rude, young man who uncannily resembles someone from her dreams.
Action ensues with raunchy sex, ghost cats, demons, witches and magic mixed into what is basically a classic romance.
The fact that the boy is a vampire and the girl can raise ghosts only adds to the fun.
Verdict: Raunchy romp with a bunch of laughs and slapstick humour.
