Boom Crash Beach Gig
Some talented musicians will headline this year's Bands on the Beach in Palm Cove.
Palm Cove will host Bands On The Beach 2008 this Saturday, raising money for the children’s advocacy and counselling organisation, Bravehearts.
Once again the event will generate a lot of interest in Cairns and Palm Cove, showcasing high quality local and national musicians. The fun starts at 2pm and goes on until 8pm at the northern end of Williams Esplanade in Palm Cove.
Among the highlights will be music from the band of the 1st Battalion Royal Australian Regiment, as well as young punk rockers Minus Penny, local folk artist Carinda Christie and ’80s rock group Boom Crash Opera (pictured).
Melbourne quartet Boom Crash Opera shot to stardom in the late ’80s with a string of chart toppers including Onion Skin, The Best Thing, Get Out of The House and Dancing In The Storm, mainly from the 1989 album These Hear Are Crazy Times, which spent more than 12 months in the Australian Top 40 and achieved double platinum sales.
Dale Ryder and the lads are still around almost 20 years later and head to Cairns to play from an extensive back catalogue of songs that many music fans will recognise.
Bands On The Beach has become an institution in the Far North since the event started in 2006.
In previous years the event has attracted crowds in excess of 1000 people, growing rapidly each year.
Bands On The Beach will be held in Palm Cove from 2pm until 8pm at the northern end of Williams Esplanade. For more information call Colleen on 0438 576 079 or email cwere@bigpond.com
