DR Jayant Patel is back in Brisbane after his extradition flight from Los Angeles, the former Bundaberg surgeon sleeping through most of the 13-hour flight.

Before the flight touched down, Dr Patel and his police escorts were relocated from their economy seats in the main cabin to some flight attendant positions near an exit row, making it easier for them to leave the plane.

He was briefly placed in an airport security lounge, before waiting police transferred him to a vehicle and transported him in a police motorcade to Brisbane's central business district.
