I arrived in Cairns from N.S.W. with my family in the late 1950's at the age of four but left at the age of ten due to my father's work relocating to Innisfail.

During the short time I was here my two younger sisters were born at the Cairns Base Hospital and I attended Cairns Central School.

Unfortunately my father passed away after a car accident in 1966 so my mother and my sisters and I moved back to N.S.W. to be near family.

My dream to return to Cairns was with me as long as I can remember and I returned in 1987 with my husband and two young boys who had a wonderful childhood and are now grown up and living their own dreams.

I cannot tell you why a young child's dream was so strong to return to a place that holds a mixture of good and bad memories but I know there is nowhere else I want to be, even for a holiday.

I've now lived half my fifty-four years in Cairns so all I want now is for someone to pronounce me a local!
