Blood Noir by Laurell K Hamilton (Orbit)

Once again we return to the world of Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, with all the blood, sex, romance and action that Hamilton’s series is known for.

This time around in Blood Noir Anita is doing her best to help out her friend Jason – a werewolf with family issues.

Jason’s father – who hates him – is dying and Jason needs Anita’s support as he returns to his hometown to try to come to terms with his father’s hatred.

Hamilton’s books in this genre have been ground-breaking in making ‘the supernatural in everyday life’ become a best-selling genre.

Blood Noir is the fifteenth in the series and Hamilton’s skill in keeping the storyline alive and interesting is what makes Anita Blake an enduring literary character.

Anita’s love-life full of vampires, weres and very raunchy sex is what draws many readers but it’s the interaction and very modern mores of her characters that keeps readers enthralled.

While it is best to have read the previous novels, Blood Noir, like the previous novel Micah, can be read alone.

Verdict: Classic Anita Blake adventure for fans and new readers alike.
