Raceday couple Liz Greatorex and Paul Yelaska share tips and tricks on their fashionable ensembles and must-have items at the track

Paul Yelaska // 21 // Earlville // Century Cranes boilermaker

The total look

Hair // Jason McAlister from Adam & Eva does my hair. He always seems to be able to style it just right.
Outfit // I usually shop at Victor Mellick Mens Fashions for my outfit each year. They stock everything so it’s a one-stop shop. The clothes are really unique so I’m bound to be a little bit different which is always a good thing.
Cufflinks // Paul Smith has some really fun styles. It’s good to mix it up with a little bit of a brighter colour even for the winter carnival.
Socks // My favourite socks are my red monkey Mitch Dowd socks, they’re very comfortable.
Hat // I love hats. I have a few different styles and they always seem to finish off an outfit and pull it together. I usually get my hats from Victor Mellick because they have a great range all year round.
Sunglasses // I have a really bad habit of losing my sunnies so I’m banning myself from buying another pair.

Race day essentials

Wallet // I usually just take my Ted Baker card holder.
Credit card // I never take my credit card to the races – I would probably get myself in a lot of trouble.
Cash // If it’s going to be quite a big day where I’ll make quite a few bets and have quite a few drinks I usually need quite a few dollars … just in case.
Mints // I always carry mints.

Liz Greatorex // 21 // Whitfield // Knight Frank cadet valuer

The total look

Outfit // My mum is the most talented woman I know. She is who I have to thank for my dresses. She is so creative and each year we together come up with some fabulous outfits for the race season. I’m so lucky that my mother can sew.
Fascinator // There are so many wonderful milliners in Cairns but this year Statement Millinery are doing my headpieces which I’m really excited about.
Shoes // I’m actually quite fussy on shoes. I prefer a high heel shoe with a peep toe and usually rely on Shoetopia at Edge Hill.
Hair // Jason from Adam & Eva works wonders when it comes to race dos. I don’t like wearing my hair down to race days because wearing it up seems to be so much more complementing and really finishes the look.
Tan // I’m so addicted. I need some self control when it comes to some things. Brow Babes do a really natural colour.

Clutch essentials

Mini perfume // Every girl needs it to stay fresh, At the moment I love Mediterranean by Elizabeth Arden.
Lipstick // Estee Lauder Pure Colour Crystal Lipstick in Rouge Cristal is my favourite.
Powder // I tend to get a little flushed in the heat of the day so having powder for touch-ups usually does the trick.
Hairspray // My mini hairspray is the perfect size to fit in my clutch. It’s a life saver especially on a windy day at the races.
Mobile phone // Where would I be without it? Though during all the hype of a race day I’m hardly on my phone.
Camera // I love photos, except in the morning when you look back and think “never again”.
Fashion tape // It’s my must-have item. Let’s just say that a dress I once wore to the races didn’t hold together like it should have!

Photographs // Veronica Sagredo; Location // Hilton Cairns, ph: 4050 2000; Make-up // Amanda Macor, Brow Babes, Grafton St, ph: 4041 6840; Hair // Adam & Eva, Spence St, ph: 4041 0441; Liz’s outfit // Lollita dress, $295, Tea Lily, Grafton St, ph: 4041 4150; Liz’s fascinator // $300, Amanda Macor, Brow Babes, Grafton St, ph: 4041 6840.
