Nigel Hobbs from Cairns company Fuel Creative Design tells us about his recent travel (mis)adventures...
Last week I came home to Cairns from Bali.
The small trip of 4 hours fly time is broken up by a dreadful stopover in Darwin.
Usually this wouldn’t be a major issue, but if you leave Bali at 9:15pm and arrive into Darwin at 1:15am, then board the plane again at 5:30am to arrive into Cairns at just after 8am it is a total joke!
The stupidity works also going from Cairns to Bali, so at least It’s consistent!
I guarantee you’ll get off the plane sleep deprived, unhappy and very frustrated, all you can do to re-charge is go to sleep which then brings a massive problem of now being completely on the wrong time zone?
I would rather fly to London or Los Angeles than trundle four hours up the road to Bali.
It’s worse than heading out for a two day party with no sleep and definitely not as rewarding!
What’s with the early morning connections and huge downtime on such a short flight?
Why can’t the airlines get it right?
Although we are talking predominantly about Jet Star and well, that’s what we have all come to expect from Australia’s worst low cost carrier!
I did get my luggage this time so that’s a bonus.
Just a note, if you’re planning on flying up to Bali and booking through Qantas via Darwin, they will take your money and then sneak you onto a subsidiary airline called Air North from Darwin, or Jet Star from Sydney, so be prepared.
It’s a shame it’s so hard to get to Bali from Cairns, as it’s an absolutely beautiful part of the world and a great short break away.
I suspect most tourists traveling through South East Asia would choose to fly into another port rather than Cairns once they see the flights, which is not a good thing for our region.
Bring back the direct Cairns - Bali flights I say!
