Paradise Concerts will mix haunting music and stunning images of the reef in a magical performance
We’re now in the International Year of the Coral Reef and to celebrate, Paradise Concerts will present Reef Reverie – a world-first performance combining dramatic underwater images and specially commissioned music.
The pairing of photography by International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame member Bob Halstead with the music of international composer and pianist Ross Carey will make for a special experience for lovers of the Reef and classical music.
Ross will be joined by violinist Kirtley Leigh Paine to perform the composition at the Hilton Cairns.
Ms Leigh Paine, also Paradise Concerts artistic director, said the event will be a shining light.
"This year we wanted to do something truly special to highlight the beauty and magnificence of coral reefs. With the Great Barrier Reef on our doorstep, it seemed fitting to combine the imagery of magnificent underwater photography with atmospheric classical music," she says.
"Bob notes that the Great Barrier Reef is actually regenerating off Cairns and Port Douglas and that recent ‘no-take’ zones have increased fish numbers dramatically. His is a positive, celebratory message.
"For Reef Reverie, Ross has composed a beautiful piece for violin and piano called Beneath the Sea. When performed in combination with Bob Halstead’s underwater images, the effect is truly magical."
Reef Reverie will be performed at Six Degrees Bar and Lounge, Hilton Cairns, on Saturday, July 26 from 4.30pm. Tickets are $35 for adults and $20 for students. To book phone TicketLink on 4031 9555 or go to www.ticketlink.com.au
