Two of the greats of Californian punk rock, Strung Out and No Use For A Name, hit Cairns as part of their Srangers in the Otback tour

If you’re a fan of Californian punk rock, you’ll be pleased to hear that a couple of the best bands from the genre will be performing in Cairns this weekend.

No Use For A Name have no idea what to expect, but Strung Out are no strangers to our far-flung corners, having played more than 50 shows here with Frenzal Rhomb back in 2001.

Last time they took a bunker mentality, cramming 10 people into a four-sleeper campervan.

Stronger for the experience, Strung Out will lead No Use For A Name into the great unknown for another round of regional touring madness.

Technical and aggressive, yet melodic and emotional, Strung Out has emerged from the grossly populated southern California music scene as one of the strongest and most creative melodic punk bands in the land.

These masters of the So-Cal punk scene have wowed fans from the off, starting with their first release, Another Day in Paradise in May 1994, to their breakthrough sophomore Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues (1996) and through to their third and biggest record, Twisted by Design (1998).

Armed with Grammy Award-winning producer Matt Hyde (Slayer, Hatebreed) new release Blackhawks Over Los Angeles looks set to see their steadfast ascent continue.

No Use For A Name are a four-piece group from San Jose, California, and have been the torchbearers of the skate-punk scene since Tony Sly and Rory Koff started the band in 1987.

Since then they have been hugely successful with records such as Incognito, Don’t Miss the Train, The Daily Grind and Leche Con Carne – from which the video for Soulmate was added to heavy rotation on MTV.

No Use For A Name has just released their ninth studio release, The Feel Good Record of the Year.

Catch these veterans of punk live while you still can.

Strung Out and No Use For A Name play Brothers Leagues Club on Saturday, July 26 from 8pm. To book phone Brothers on 4053 1053.
