One of Australia's top experimental sound festivals visits Cairns as part of On Edge

Liquid Architecture is a national sound art festival that celebrates the diverse methods of sound making and sound theory.

Occurring annually since 2000, Liquid Architecture takes place across Australia and comes to Cairns this weekend.

Here it will present four dynamic sound and media artists: Cedric Peyronnet – aka toy.bizarre (from France), Jacques Soddell (from Melbourne), Tom Hall (from Brisbane) and File_Error (from Cairns).

Cedric Peyronnet has worked as a sound artist since the ’90s. He explores places by sound recording, listening and sound sculpting.

He has published more than 40 works through CD, vinyl, concerts, sound screenings and installations.

Jacques Soddell is a former microbiologist who has graduated to experimental music/sound art and video.

He produces sounds (and video) for theatre, dance, live performance and installation, and runs an experimental music/multimedia label called Cajid Media.

Emerging through the ranks, Tom Hall has been working at carving out a niche for himself as a sound composer, photographer and performer.

Hall applies visual rules to sound, using it like a moldable medium such as clay, rather than something musical.

Local artist File_Error works across the fields of sound art and digital screen/media.

The elusive artist draws from field and urban recordings, sound and vision and samples and electronics.

Liquid Architecture 9 takes place as part of On Edge on Friday, July 25 at JUTE Theatre, Centre of Contemporary Arts, from 8pm. Tickets available from TicketLink.
