A FALLEN tree on a median strip in Abbott St held up city traffic and pedestrians yesterday.
The umbrella tree had been an attraction to visitors as many stopped to take photographs.
Rain and wind overnight had caused the tree to lean over near traffic lights at the Shields St intersection.
Cairns Regional Council was alerted to the falling tree, which blocked part of the crossing path to pedestrians walking into Shields St and became a hazard for motorists who had to drive around it.
Cairns Regional Council community relations manager Gary Schofield said council officers would remove it this morning.
