Prime Minister Kevin Rudd let us know what he loves about Cairns on his recent visit to the region

It's great to be back in Tropical North Queensland, it's a special place in Australia.

The morning drive from Cairns to Port Douglas was spectacular. The coastal road is a gateway to the region's World Heritage - to the right the Great Barrier Reef, to the left the Wet Tropics Rainforest.

I experienced firsthand the hospitality of the local tourism industry and the beauty of the reef during my visit.

I have been visiting the region for many years and always look forward to coming back.

As Prime Minister, I know I have a duty to protect these natural wonders for future generations.

In Tropical North Queensland, the weather`s not only wonderfully warm, so are the people and I look forward to my next visit.
