Accused faces death charge
A 23-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with manslaughter after the death of Cairns plasterer Craig Hadrick.
Mr Hadrick, 35, died on Monday, less than two days after he was knocked unconscious during a fight at Cutters Social Club at Bentley Park.
Daniel Paul Jackson appeared in Cairns Magistrates' Court yesterday afternoon where his original charge of grievous bodily harm was struck out and replaced with manslaughter.
His brother, Bradley Michael Jackson, 25, also appeared in court.
No changes were made to his charge of grievous bodily harm but his bail conditions were amended.
The pair first appeared in court on Monday and were granted bail by Magistrate Robert Spencer.
The court heard that on Saturday night Bradley Jackson allegedly became involved in a scuffle and Mr Hadrick was knocked to the floor.
Police alleged that when he tried to get up, Daniel Jackson punched him in the head, causing Mr Hadrick to fall and hit his head on a bar stool.
Mr Hadrick was taken to Cairns Base Hospital and kept on life support until Monday afternoon.
His mother, Maggie Thomson, last week told The Cairns Post that she was comforted by her son's decision to register himself as an organ donor.
Police prosecutor Simon Bright did not oppose bail for Daniel Jackson yesterday, despite the more serious charge.
The brothers will next appear in court on September 29.
