Two new finalists in The Cairns Post's timeOUT local band search last night could not believe they could soon be sharing the stage with Australian rockers Kisschasy.

Townsville five-piece alternative rockers Approaching Aver and Kuranda three-piece grunge rockers For An Occasion progressed from the second heat of the Battle of the Bands search before about 200 people at Gilligan's last night.

The bands now get to compete at the grand final on August 8 for the prize of performing with four of the nation's hottest music acts at the 2008 timeOUT concert.

On the bill for the Cairns Showground concert on August 30 is Kisschasy, Scribe, Blue King Brown and Faker.\

The Cairns Post readers can collect a free ticket simply by collecting 12 tokens, which will appear in each edition until August 8.

"It would just be such an awesome opportunity to play with Kisschasy," Approaching Aver's excited lead singer and drummer Adrian Moriconi said after the heat."It would be an awesome thing to have on our resume."

The Cairns Post's marketing manager Sylvia Palumbo said the final would be a "very tight" contest, with Battle of the Bands discovering "huge talent" right across North Queensland.

The final Battle of the Bands heat is at Gilligan's on Friday, August 8. The timeOUT concert will be held at Cairns Showgrounds on Saturday, August 30. Get your free ticket tokens in The Cairns Post everyday.
