Keep eye on cool shot

LOUISE Orbons spent 30 minutes in freezing water at Crystal Cascades to create this stunning portrait.

Taken by The Cairns Post's pictorial editor Marc McCormack, the photo shoot involved the modelling agency boss trekking through rainforest and clambering over rocks to get to the location.

The owner of LuLu's Model management and Orbons academy in Cairns, changed into the wedding dress and donned a 5m length of hot pink satin material before taking the plunge last month.

She said the shoot was challenging for several reasons.

"I'd just had all my hair cut off, and I'd never had short hair in my life and to model with short hair was a challenge," the 38-year-old said.

"But more difficult was being in the water. The whole emotion behind the shoot was for it to be soft and gentle, but the water was flowing quite rapidly.

"It was a real challenge for keep my arms looking soft and relaxed while holding the material up. And, it was freezing."

McCormack, a photographer for 20 years, described the portrait as one of the best he had taken.

Louise's picture features on the cover of this week's edition of cairnseye magazine. Next month, she is among a group of people heading off to Thailand to work in an orphanage for 10 days.

The group is seeking cash donations to give to the orphanage and if you can help, call 4041 5966.
