Two Times A Lady
The craziness never ends once you get the hilarious Julia Morris on stage, writes Laura Stace
If you have found a pair of Chanel sunglasses on Trinity Beach, they belong to It Takes Two winner Julia Morris – no need to return them though she says, just make sure to look fabulous in them.
The multi-Logie award-winner often comes to the Far North on holiday, but on August 9 she will be in Cairns at Cazalys as part of her An Evening with Lady Julia Morris tour.
Joining her in the show is one of her best mates and fellow comedian Jackie Loeb.
Julia says she and Jackie have an amazing time on tour together. Instead of hitting the clubs when the curtain comes down, they nip back to their hotel room for a nice cuppa and two biscuits.
When they are feeling really naughty they might have four biscuits – you never know, one day they might even scoff the whole packet.
"The show has been beautifully received, but it is a great sign when I can hear Jackie laughing in the back of the room," she says of her friend, who hears her jokes over and over again.
Julia rose to fame in the early ’90s when she appeared on the comedy sketch show Full Frontal, which led to numerous hosting gigs such as Great Aussie Bloopers and The Morris Report, as well as a permanent spot on Beauty and the Beast.
In 2000, Julia moved to Britain, where she appeared on sitcoms, panel, quiz, entertainment and news shows. She left Britain with a swag of awards including the 2001 Herald-Angel Award for Excellence in Live Performance and was the recipient of the Time Out Comedy Performer of the Year in 2004.
"It is an exciting place to be," she says of London, but she is happy to be raising her family and working back home in Australia.
Julia says those who come to the show should make sure they go to the bathroom first as they will be doing "gutsy, barky laughs" throughout her performance, which, she promises, will conclude with a good old singalong.
• Julia Morris and Jackie Loeb will be at Cazalys on Saturday, doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets are available for $32 from Cazalys.
