This year's Club Course organisers are pulling out the big guns, with Johnny Gleeson and MC Shureshock among the race day picks

Once the gee-gees are off the track and the betting hall has emptied at the Cairns Cup, Club Course the Annual will be there to get you grooving into the night.

The post-races event has been a hit at previous cup days and will be taken to the next level this year.

One of Australia’s favourite DJs, Johnny Gleeson, will hit the decks along with headline act Splitloop, Kid Kenobi, the Vinyl Slingers, MC Shureshock and local talent.

As well as the tunes, punters will be treated to a performance by local dance troupe Allure, plus visuals provided by VJs and a fashion and hair parade.

Johnny Gleeson is one of Australia’s finest DJ/ producer exports.

In the past year alone, he has rocked dance floors throughout London, Italy, Ibiza, New York, Miami, Beijing, Shanghai and most major Australian hotspots and has also released five successful singles.

Affectionately known as The Godfather by some of the younger jocks, Johnny has firmly cemented his place in house music history in Australia.

It is no wonder artists such as Bini and Martini, Paolo Mojo, Robbie Rivera, Mark Knight, Martijn Ten Velden, Dave Spoon, Hoxton Whores and Scumfrog have all offered their remixing skills to his material this year.

Joining him as part of Club Course will be the team-oriented Vinyl Slingers.

The musical range of the Vinyl Slingers ventures beyond labels and genres.

To wit, the Vinyl Slingers sound is founded in bass-heavy funk, but given its members – a percussionist (Mohair), drummer (Bushboy), MC (Shureshock), a scratch DJ (DJ Rasp) and a didgeridoo player (Didgeri-Fuze) – it’s easy to see how the group might stray from a singular sound.

So what can you expect from a Vinyl Slingers set?

The boys base their gigs around established tracks, re-invigorating familiar tunes to create a unique live experience.

Johnny Gleeson and the Vinyl Slingers perform at Club Course the Annual at Cannon Park in conjunction with the Ladies Day and Cairns Cup weekend on Saturday. Phone TicketLink on 4031 9555.
