A CAIRNS mother is desperately searching for her son who mysteriously disappeared five days ago after leaving a nightclub with a group of strangers.

Raukeri Rangiuira, 21, who had only been in the region for a few weeks, was last seen leaving Rumors nightclub at Innisfail about 3am on Saturday.

He had been out partying with his Victorian-based father. Detectives last night revealed Mr Rangiuira had made no contact with his distraught family since he vanished.

They admitted they had few clues about his disappearance.

"When his father went outside and tried to find him, he couldn’t find him at all but he was last seen leaving with a group of people," Innisfail District Inspector David Tucker said yesterday.

"We don’t know who he left with or how many people he left with."

Police have not been able to trace him via his mobile phone or any other means.

Worried family members could not be contacted yesterday as they continued their search for him.

Police said the 21-year-old had been in Cairns a matter of weeks.

Insp Tucker implored anyone who left the nightclub with Mr Rangiuira or saw him to contact them.

"We’ve got nothing at the moment to trace him with and we’re just hoping he will contact us so we can assure his family he’s OK," Insp Tucker said.

"His family is very distressed."

Mr Rangiuira is described as 170cm tall, of South Sea Islander appearance with a short rat’s tail in his dark hair.

His case was one of two missing- person investigations announced by police late yesterday.

Detectives also have posted an appeal for the whereabouts of a missing New South Wales man who is believed to have started driving to Cairns last weekend.

Concerns are held for the welfare of Robert Renfrey, who has a medical condition and has not been in contact with family or friends since leaving his Belimbla Park home on Saturday.

Police believe he is driving a red 1999 Ford Forte sedan with registration ATI49B.

Mr Renfrey, 49, is about 173cm tall with brown hair, hazel eyes and a solid build.

Anyone with information on Mr Rangiuira or Mr Renfrey should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
