IT is easy to get a $150 designer shirt for $1.50 in Cairns.

There are bargains galore - you just need to go op shopping.

The Weekend Post yesterday made a visit to Lifeline's store on Anderson St and within one hour found three men's and women's outfits, all under $70 each.

Classy wear was found from designer labels - like Coco Chanel and Sandra Steiner - to top brands such as Cue and Country Road.

A tailored Coco Chanel jacket was just $20.

Local models Kairi Russell and Eugene Bandas proved bargain buying was easy after choosing some casual, evening and day wear.

Kairi was ready to hit the town in her designer dress, necklace and shoes that came in at $68. Eugene's find came in at even cheaper.

He wore a pair of $12 jeans, a $5 shirt and a pair of shoes for $2.

Both models were able to dress in their casual day wear for about $20.

Lifeline Roundabout Store manager Jackie Friesen said the bargains were ripe for the picking, if people were willing to spend an extra five minutes.

"With the current economic climate people are starting to look around a lot more," she said.

"In an op shop you get a bigger selection and can pick up stuff that is out of season.

"You can get retrospective - fashions that have gone out of fashion."

And she said no one could tell where you got it.

Kairi said she tried to browse only in op shops and looked weekly to find a bargain.

"I've already been to three today," she said.

"I love the fact that I can find stuff that no one else can.

"I bought a Morrissey shirt today would usually go for $150 - I got in a bag for $10," she said.

Eugene says he hits the $1 rack before he goes to parties.

"It doesn't matter if you only wear it once," he said.
