Bizarre: Guy Verkroost got this wonderful picture of Shield Bugs on the track to Josephine Falls.

This colourful image of these bizarre looking Shield Bugs was taken by Guy Verkroost on the track to Josephine Falls for our Weekender Wildlife Photography competition.

So far we have received over 800 entries and magnificent images keep flowing in, showing that Far Northerners are no slouch in the photography department.

View picture galleries of entries.

The competition follows The Cairns Post’s successful Operation Leapfrog, done in partnership with the Australian Rainforest Foundation to raise awareness of the plight of frogs in the Far North.

Now, we want you to send us your best snaps in five categories – butterflies, birds, reptiles, Australian mammals and insects.

Submit your own picture.

It’s part of our plan to produce a colour wildlife poster series – all featuring the best wildlife pictures taken by our readers.
