Wow: A 10,000-strong crowd descended on Cairns Showground for the 2008 timeOUT concert on Saturday.

PUNK, rock, reggae and hip hop blasted Cairns away in a festival-flurried weekend.

There was something for all with rockers Faker, reggae group Blue King Brown, punk group Kisschasy and New Zealand hip hop legend Scribe headlining the show.

Local band The Medics started the show.

Organisers and authorities have labelled timeOUT one of the best festivals Cairns has ever seen.

And punters say they’ll be back next year.

"It’s getting bigger and bigger every year," The Cairns Post’s marketing manager Sylvia Palumbo said.

"First it was 5000 people, then 9000, and now more than 10,000. Being an organiser, I’m very happy. We did it for the youth of Cairns."

Holloways Beach couple Rachael Peters and Gabe Savage were determined not to miss the concert and were the first of thousands to get their free tickets, through tokens in The Cairns Post.

"There were so many people there," Ms Peters said of her third timeOUT festival.

"It was a really good day and night. Scribe was the best.

"It was excellent how they set up. It was really good at the Showground this year," she said.

"It was good knowing some people paid $60 and we only paid $12 for the newspaper tokens."

Police agreed the event ran smoothly and said only one man was arrested – he was charged for committing a public nuisance and obstructing police.

"It was very quiet and everyone was well behaved apparently," Cairns police Sgt Caroline Barker said.
