Find your own slice of paradise at Port Douglas, one of the region's most popular luxury tourism options.

Port Douglas is a small beachside community located a little less than an hour's drive north of Cairns.

Known the world-over as one of Australia's luxury tourism hotspots, Port Douglas has played host to numerous international identities such as former-US president Bill Clinton, popstars Pink and Kylie Minogue and movie stars Keanu Reeves and Val Kilmer.

While Port Douglas residents are used to the town's popularity, it still manages to retain a relaxed charm and is a perfect place for a weekend getaway in absolute luxury.

The town contains many 5-star hotels, great dining, bars, boutique shopping and numerous tourist attractions on its doorstep, including the Great Barrier Reef, Daintree Rainforest and Mossman Gorge.

Port Douglas’ Four Mile Beach boasts a spectacular stretch of sand and fronts the Sheraton Mirage Resort, its golf course and a large public reserve.

Port also has one of the best Sunday markets in the Cairns region, with people travelling from all parts of North Queensland to exhibit their wares.

They are hugely popular with locals and tourists alike and contain a mixture of clothing, arts, crafts, jewellery and fresh local produce.

Port Douglas comes alive in May for the Carnivale - one of the region's biggest festivals.

Included in the Carnivale is a streat parade, concerts, sporting and food and wine events.

Getting from Cairns to Port Douglas is easy - just take a drive along the picturesque Captain Cook Highway north of Cairns (complete with spectacular views of the Coral Sea and mountain ranges) or take one of the many tourist coaches that heads along this route daily.

Most hotels will provide transfers from the Cairns CBD or Airport.

So if your looking for a weekend getaway in paradise with all the trimmings, look no further than Port Douglas - you won't be dissapointed.
