Drug suspect flies to court
AN alleged drug trafficker will front Cairns Magistrates' Court this morning after he was arrested in Victoria.
Cameron David Morrison, 30, was handcuffed as he was escorted from his flight by two drug squad detectives late yesterday.
He will appear in court today on a string of drug-related charges.
Mr Morrison was arrested at Blairgowrie, south of Melbourne, on Sunday after a nationwide manhunt.
A warrant for his arrest was issued after police raided a Stratford home in August and seized 65g of suspected cocaine, more than 920 ecstasy tablets and several bags of methyl-amphetamine.
About $8000 in cash, about 10 capsules that allegedly contained methcathinone and a small amount of cannabis also was confiscated at the property.
Far Northern Drug Squad Det Sen-Sgt Mick Dowie said Mr Morrison was arrested as part of Operation Major, an ongoing investigation into the supply of cocaine, ecstasy and amphetamines in the Cairns area.
Mr Morrison has been charged with drug trafficking, supply and possession. He also is facing charges of possessing drug-related utensils.
Det Sen-Sgt Dowie said the drug squad had targeted the supply of speed and ecstasy as a priority in recent years but described the presence of cocaine as a "concern".
The discovery of capsules containing methcathinone - a drug that could shut down the vital organs of users - also were alarming, he said.
