Travel book with a difference
CAIRNS BOOK REVIEW: Seven Gateways by Tony Grey (Halstead Press)
A good looking hard-cover ‘travel book with a difference’, in which the author visits seven places in the world which have deep meaning for seven different religions and cultures.
They include Kakadu, the Egyptian temple of Osiris, Delphi in Greece, Jerusalem’s Western Wall, Assissi, Damascus and Bhutan.
He describes the religions, origins and people for whom these places are holy.
This is also a fine history and reference book, and much can be learned about, and from, each of the significant places.
Here is a book to be treasured, too, for its minutiae of such as whirling dervishes, the spirituality of place and the blending, over time, of certain religions.
VERDICT: A must-have for your bookcase and your enjoyment.
