Perfect family escape
Fun for all the ages: you won't have to look far for family activities in the Cairns region. Picture: TTNQ
The Cairns region is the perfect family holiday destination, with a little something for everyone -adults and children alike.
There are literally hundreds of attractions to see and do, with the only limit being your imagination.
One perfect way to spend the day is to take a trip out on the water to experience the magic of the Great Barrier Reef, complete with a trip to one of the many tropical islands located within an hour’s boat ride of the either Cairns or Port Douglas.
Swimming, diving, snorkelling, glass-bottom boat tours – the list goes on and on – the only problem you will have is deciding what to do next!
Most tour companies are very accommodating of families and will do their absolute best keeping everyone entertained, ensuring a day on the reef will be money well-spent.
If you prefer staying on dry land, a day trip to explore the age-old Daintree Rainforest will be another hit, with activities like a Daintree River crocodile cruise or a stroll through the rainforest boardwalk giving fantastic insight into the unique local plant and animal life.
The cosmopolitan vibe of Cairns’ CBD also presents lots for the family to do, with attractions like the Esplanade Lagoon, Muddy’s Playground and the Esplanade Skate Park enough to keep everyone busy (with plenty of fantastic shopping and dining for the parents too!)
There is also a fantastic tropical animal zoo located in the dome of the Reef Hotel Casino which will enable you to get up-close and personal with crocs, birds and other local native wildlife.
These are just a couple of ideas to take up your time while visiting Cairns – for a full list of family activities please follow the links below:
