Call to fix 'black spot'
SOUTH side residents are calling on Main Roads to fix what they say is a dangerous intesection on the Bruce Highway after a fatal crash between a car and a semi-trailer today.
At about 6.30am, a Cairns Mulch Mack semi-trailer and a Holden Viva sedan crashed into each other at the intersection of Foster Rd and the Bruce Highway at Mt Sheridan.
The woman driver of the car, who was in her 40s, was killed in the impact, while the truck driver was taken to Cairns Base Hospital and treated for shock.
The accident closed the highway as police called for calm after complaints from irate commuters caught in the morning rush hour.
Police are seeking the assistance from members of the public who may have witnessed the incident to contact Cairns Traffic Branch on 4044 8888.
Police would also like to speak to a truck driver of a white prime mover that stopped briefly at the scene just after the crash happened.
