Sailing into the sunset: Port Douglas is among 20 Far North attractions and places to make the list of 150 of the top’s best experiences.
HAVE you been white water rafting on the Tully River or taken a stroll along Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas?
When was the last time you rode the scenic rail to Kuranda or visited Bramston Beach?
Or perhaps you would like to rescue a turtle at Mapoon or take in the beauty of the waterfalls of the southern Atherton Tablelands?
They are just a few of the Far North Queensland activities and attractions listed on the RACQ 150 Must-Do’s campaign launched yesterday by Premier Anna Bligh as part of the state’s 150th birthday activities.
Twenty Far Northern attractions and events made the list.
Queensland tourism operators say the new advertising campaign will further encourage people to holiday locally during the global economic slowdown.
The RACQ and Tourism Queensland compiled 150 experiences across the state from more than 600 suggestions from regional tourism bodies.
RACQ chief executive Ian Gillespie said the Far North nominations "showcased the tropical beauty and rich character that is synonymous with the Top End".
"Whether scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef, hiking the Daintree rainforest or barramundi fishing on the Tableland, the Far North offers some of the defining experiences for Queenslanders to choose as the ultimate must do," Mr Gillespie said.
Stradbroke Island, Mon Repos turtle rookery and Lamington National Park are some of the other places to make the list.
Voting is open until January 31 with the ultimate "must-do" announced on February 28.
People who register their vote on the website have the opportunity to win prizes throughout the campaign.
