Movember is nearly over, but the boys and girls from The Heritage are seeing it off with a bang this Sunday, writes JESSE KUCH

ovember is an annual charity event held during the month of November.

At the start of Movember, guys register with a clean shaven face.

The Movember participants, known as Mo Bros, have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their mo, raising money along the way to benefit men’s health – specifically prostate cancer and male depression.

Movember culminates at the end of the month with official gala parties, mo-office and Motown parties where Tom Selleck and Borat look-alikes battle it out for their chance to be the Man of Movember.

The Heritage is hosting Cairns’ biggest Movember do this Sunday afternoon, with all the money from the $5 entry fee being donated to charity.

The event kicks off at 5pm, with four of Heritage’s resident DJs keeping the crowd entertained all evening with a selection of quality tunes.

First up is Paulie, playing funk, soul, hip-hop and, of course, Motown.

Following him will be DJ Lukee, playing a blend of sexy tunes for the ladies (while growing a mo is left to the guys, Mo Sistas form an important part of Movember by recruiting Mo Bros, helping to raise funds for the cause).

Closing the night are Dion Jackson and Tim Park, two former Sydney DJs who have moved to Cairns after holding residencies at two of the city’s best known and loved clubs, Tonic and World Bar, respectively.

Tim took out the "Cairns Ultimate Deckhead" competition as part of the launch of the Cairns Music Festival this week, earning himself a spot alongside the likes of Sneaky Sound System, TyDi and The Dukes of Windsor at the December event at Fogarty Park on the Esplanade.

He says the guys at The Heritage will do anything they can to support causes like Movember.

"Prostate cancer and depression are up there with breast cancer these days, so anything we can do to help, we will jump at it," he said.

Sunday’s party will have heaps of mo-related prizes in categories like Mo Man: Best in Town and Mo Bros: Best Team for the gents and Mo Love: Miss Movember for the ladies.

So if you’re sporting a mo this Sunday, or just want to help support men’s health in Cairns, get along to The Heritage this Sunday at 5pm and get your mo on!

Mo Bro: Heritage resident Tim Park recently earned himself a spot on the lineup of the Cairns Music Festival and will be spinning tunes this weekend at the Heritage's Movember party.
