Velvet's funky cats
Velvet Undergound is kicking off a new feast of funky tunes on Friday nights.
Tired of the same old Friday nights around town? Velvet Underground is launching an exciting new theme this week with Funky Kitten Fridays.
Featuring the musical talents of Shaneal (Bellagio Las Vegas, Butter New York), live sax and bongos, dancers, a live MC and retro and disco DJs, Funky Kitten Fridays are aimed at young, professional business people who want a change from crowded tourist bars to something a little more cosmopolitan.
Shaneal has spent years building an in-demand reputation for his dynamic live shows among the world’s rich and famous, including gigs at Hef’s Playboy Mansion in LA, the MTV Awards Party, Dolce & Gabanna fashion festival in Milan, the 2008 Halloween party at the famous Kodak theatre in Hollywood and high-end shows in Las Vegas and Miami.
His music has been featured on MTV, in Victoria’s Secret and Dolce & Gabanna fashion shows, on both Australia and America’s Next Top Model TV shows and on the Style Life website by Neil Strauss, author of The Game.
At a recent performance at one of New York’s best known and loved venues Butter, Madonna herself invited Shaneal over to her table to tell him personally how much she enjoyed his show.
Shaneal says all of his songs come from personal experiences and have to do with good times, luxury, cocktails and dreams.
"I want to get away from negativity," he says.
"I love that funky, groovy, sexy style of the 70s and 80s, and I’m putting my fresh approach to it."
>> Funky Kitten Fridays premieres at Velvet Underground tomorrow night with free entry before 11pm and $15 after.
