THE wet season has only just begun and already readers are snapping awesome pictures of storms across the region.

This picture was taken by amateur photographer Joseph Brimacombe, using a Canon 20D camera and 24mm lens, from his unit at Coral Towers on the Esplanade about 11pm on Wednesday.

Check out more amazing weather photos in our photo gallery.

Mr Brimacombe, who usually photographs planets and stars, turned his camera to 10-second exposure intervals to capture the amazing storm images.

"It's one of my best shots - the lightning is reflecting on the water and you can pick out some landmarks," Mr Brimacombe said.

"Every so often I get really lucky."
