BREAKING NEWS: Police divers have found the body of a man who vanished while swimming in a notorious section of Babinda Creek, south of Cairns, on Sunday.

The 23-year-old Australian navy officer, from visiting navy vessel HMAS Norman, was at the popular swimming hole, 60km south of Cairns, with three friends when he went missing upstream of Devil's Pool Lookout.

It is believed strong currents in a notorious part of the creek pulled him under, trapping him between rocks.

SES volunteers and police have been searching for the man since Sunday afternoon.

The search zone was narrowed yesterday afternoon.

Police said this afternoon that the man's body had been located.
