Top names Aaron Smiles and Tristan Boyle will come Cadence this Friday for an end-of-year bash.

LOCAL label Open Records is teaming up with two other Australian dance music labels, Zenon and UP Records, to bring a special Christmas treat to the Far North tomorrow night.

Featuring two special guests direct from Melbourne and a host of Cairns’ best music producers, the night will be a fitting end to a massively successful year for Open in 2008.

Headlining the event is Tristan Boyle, a renowned Melbourne producer best known for his work with production duo the Phat Kontrollerz.

Tristan is one of the country’s best-loved progressive trance producers, known throughout the world for his cutting-edge production skills and experimental musicality with releases on Zenon, UP and Fabula Records.

Gone is boring, formulaic trance music. In its place is a fresh and distinctly Australian sound filled with jazz-influenced chords, intricate rhythms and fat subby basslines.

Also joining the bill from Melbourne is Aaron Smiles, one of Australia’s longest running exponents of progressive and psychedelic electronica.

Be it techno, breaks, trance, house or progressive, Aaron has more than 10 years’ experience in the industry and can legitimately claim to be one of Australia’s best DJ talents.

In Melbourne, Aaron is an icon, with festival enthusiasts having a story of a Smiles sunrise set that rocked them to the very core of their soul.

His list of credits includes supporting the likes of Ticon, Sun Project, Son Kite, Dave Angel, Big Wigs, Shiva Space Technology and Planet Ben (to name just a few) and parties such as Rainbow Serpent, Earthcore, Hydra, Tranquil Nights, Genesha, Green Ant, Sunny, Sonar and SSU.

Fresh back from a stint in Europe and ready to rock the Far North, Aaron is as stoked to be in Cairns as we are to have him.

Supported by four of Cairns’ best production talents – Urban Monkeys, One Tasty Morsel, Anatamous Audio and Duncan (who has just signed onto to massive German trance label Plusquam Records) – Open Records will see out 2008 in style this Friday night at Cadence.

>> The Open Records Christmas Party is tomorrow night at Cadence Lounge and Bar, the Esplanade from 9pm-5am. Tickets are $10 early / $15 Later.

>> timeOUT is giving one lucky reader a chance to take away a special Christmas pack from Open Records, including copies of Open Records’ two latest CDs, Festivus and Slow-Release, along with a double pass to the event on Friday night. For your chance to win, email your name, address and phone number to timeout@tcp.newsltd.com.au by 5pm Friday. The Cairns Post employees and their families are not eligible to enter.
