Get funk'd at Gilligans
FUNK is the flavour of the month for Gilligan's this weekend, with two touring acts dropping into town for the weekend.
Kicking it off on Friday night is respected Melbourne five-piece Funky Love Tank, known for their diverse blend of funk, jazz, soul, pop and R&B.Having toured extensively though Australia, Europe, Asia and the US, they has supported everyone from George Michael and Whitney Houston to Blink 182 and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, making them one of Melbourne’s most respected performers and live acts.
Funky Love Tank are unsurpassed in their ability to captivate the audience with both musical prowess and on-stage personality, making them a show not to be missed for lovers of pure funk.
On Saturday night the funk train continues, this time with American house king Jorge Jaramillo (aka Who Da Funk).
Those who haven’t heard Jorge’s anthem Shiny Disco Balls must have been living under a rock for the past decade.
The track hit the mainstream Top 40 charts in Australia, Britain and the US and earned him back-to-back Winter Music Conference awards, one for Best House Track and the other for Best Underground Track.
He is known for his energetic and fun performances in top venues around the world such as Club XIII in Moscow, Mix Club in Paris, Pacha in Ibiza and now for the first time, right here at Gilligan’s.
Jaramillo’s productions and DJ sets range from "hands in the air" peak time hits to electro and dirty house, ensuring the dance floor is moving no matter what your taste.
Complementing both shows, Pure Bar will host Soultrain, a night of the funkiest hip-hop and R&B jams featuring DJ Soul from Booty Bar and other special guests.
>> Gilligan’s big weekend of funk kicks off tomorrow night, with free entry before 10pm on both nights.
