Fitzroy Island
Picturesque: Fitzroy is one of the closest islands to Cairns.
Fitzroy Island off the coast of Cairns is one of the region's natural jewels.
Located around 45 minutes boat ride from Cairns City, Fitzroy Island is a natural paradise covered in Rainforest and surrounded by coral beaches and reefs.
One of the closest and easiest ways to see the Great Barrier Reef, the island features great bushwalking, watersports, diving and snorkelling strait off the beach.
It also features a restaurant, bistro, information centre, gift shops and a heritage listed lighthouse.
While the island has featured a resort for many years, it is currently being redeveloped to offer more accommodation options and activities.
