Dive with the whales
Dive with these gentle giants of the sea for a holiday experience with a difference.
What makes this reef trip stand out from the crowd is its access to the amazing dwarf minke whales. Poseidon is one of only three operators who have permits to take people swimming with these darlings of the deep.
If you are visiting Cairns and Port Douglas between May and August, this is the time to sign up for a unique opportunity to swim with the dwarf minke whales with Poseidon.
The Poseidon team follow very strict guidelines when interacting with the whales, but this often enables visitors to have an "up-close-and-personal" experience with the creatures.
Close up experiences can’t be guaranteed but they are frequent enough for visitors to be certain of a sighting at least. From early July until late September, the much larger humpback whales can also be seen in the area.
Poseidon has access to more than 45 sites on the Great Barrier Reef including the amazing Agincourt ribbon reefs.
Poseidon’s snorkelling guides and marine biologists can help visitors really understand the fragile beauty that is the Great Barrier Reef and identify all kinds of amazing creatures.
Another thing that makes Poseidon special is its Advanced Eco-Tourism accreditation. Poseidon follows "best-practice" guidelines to protect the Great Barrier Reef and is involved in a number of research projects like Eye on the Reef, Reef Check and the Minke Whale Project.
For a unique look at the Great Barrier Reef and the outer reefs, or the fabulous dwarf minke whales if you are visiting during the winter season, Poseidon offers a great trip for the whole family.
