Our 10 most wanted
AN alleged state-hopping bank robber, two brothers suspected of an armed hold-up and accused thugs are among the Far North's most wanted.
Police yesterday released the list of their top 10 most wanted suspects to The Cairns Post in the hope to track them down with help from the public.
Regional crime co-ordinator Det Insp John Hartwell said they should not be approached because they were considered dangerous.
"Obviously they are people we would like to locate because of the nature of the offences they have allegedly committed and the potential risk they pose to the community," he said.
The list was slimmed last week when detectives arrested burglary suspect Geoffrey Anthony Carloff and returning him to prison.
Featured in the top 10 is Ross David O'Connell, a 51-year-old West Australian man wanted for the gunpoint robbery of the ANZ bank at North Cairns in May, 2006.
He is also a suspect in seven other bank heists, including two in Perth and Adelaide on the same day, around Australia in the past five years.
On each occasion O'Connell, nicknamed by media as the "Jet-set Bandit", has allegedly worn a different disguise and even faked his own disappearance.
Brothers Allan and Brenton McGee also are wanted for questioning over a series of serious crimes, including an armed hold-up in November.
The youngest on the list is 18-year-old Donacha Patrick Tangney, who is accused of stealing and graffiti offences.
Det Insp Hartwell said publicising the top 10 most wanted would ideally prompt someone who knew or had seen the men to come forward.
"It's a case of people seeing the faces and being reminded of what these people are wanted for," he said.
Cairns police acting Sgt Cary Coolican said some of the suspects may have changed their appearance since police had taken or obtained their photographs.
"They are suspected of being in the Far North, possibly in the Cairns area." she said.
nyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects should call Cairns police on 4030 7000 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
