An idiot was busted behind the wheel just minutes after pleading guilty to disqualified driving in Atherton Magistrates' Court .
The 26-year-old Atherton man’s run home was cut short when Mareeba traffic police nabbed him on the corner of Mabel and Vernon streets at 12.35pm and impounded his car.
The man had fronted magistrate Tom Braes at Atherton yesterday on one count of driving without a licence after he was caught recently driving under suspension.
Mr Braes handed down a one-month disqualification for the original offence and yesterday afternoon police charged the man again with driving while disqualified.
The Cairns Post understands he walked out of court and went straight to his car and drove.
Acting Sgt Nathan Richards said it was disappointing people were flouting orders of the court and getting behind the wheel unlicensed and putting innocent road users at risk.
"We are disappointed to see that drivers are still disobeying magistrates’ orders and driving away from court," he said.
"It is important to remember that there is no excuse for driving without a licence and when people are attending court on driving matters, they should make sure they have a licensed driver available or another means of getting home safely."
The Atherton man will return to the Atherton Magistrates’ Court on February 10.
