McFlood meal on menu

DO you want fries with that? If the answer's yes, you could be out of luck.

Far North McDonald’s outlets have fallen victim to floodwaters that have prevented ingredients getting through, meaning burgers, fries and salads have been off the menu in some restaurants.

Jason Berther, licensee of McDonald’s stores at Manoora, Smithfield and Atherton, said regular daily deliveries had been cut due to the flooding.

"One shops out of fries and others are running out of cups and chilled products. We've had to drop the salads menu until our trucks can get through," Mr Berther said.

The flooding also delayed the opening of the new City Centre restaurant on the corner of Florence and Martin streets.

"It was supposed to be last Friday but as soon as we get stock it will be opened," he said.

Last night, more than 15 tonnes of ingredients were flown into Cairns to top up fast-dwindling supplies that arrived on Friday.

"There has been a significant extra cost to fly in the food but it will ensure customers can still come in for a bite to eat and get hot and cold drinks," Mr Berther said.
