The Gulf Savannah extends from the Great Dividing Range in the East to the Queensland-Northern Territory border in the west.

The Gulf Savannah offers tourists one of the most unique environments Australia has to offer.

Covering 186,000 square kilometres, the Savannah is home to an abundant array of flora and fauna, World Heritage listed fossil fields, aboriginal rock art, historic towns, the Undara lava tubes and some of Australia's best fishing.

It offers tourists a unique experience, with a plethora of attractions within a day's drive from Cairns.

Fossic in the gemfields, take in some indigenous culture, go for a ride on the historic Gulf Savannah Railway or perhaps just enjoy the wide open spaces - the Savannah country is another example of Far North Queensland's amazing natural heritage.

There are many tours available that will take you to important sites around the Savannah, but perhaps the best way to see the area is by 4WD.

This will allow you to see sites that tours don't normally visit and you'll be able to do it at your own pace, ensuring you don't miss out on any of the interesting attractions along the way.
