Surfing on the Esplanade
Net success: Surfing is now on the long list of activities tourists can enjoy around the Cairns Esplanade Lagoon - surfing the net, that is.
IF you've heard whispers that tourists are surfing at Cairns' Esplanade Lagoon, believe it.
Visitors can now surf the net right in the heart of Cairns' tourist centre.
Global Gossip is now providing wireless internet access along the busiest part of the Cairns Esplanade, including near the famous Esplanade Lagoon.
An antenna on top of the International Hostel covers users between Mantra Esplanade and Cairns Aquarius.
People dining at restaurants and cafes along the Esplanade can log in to Global Gossip’s service.
The coverage mainly aimed at tourists who needed easy internet access but did not want to commit to long-term contracts, he said.
The internet agency’s regional manager David Lowthian said: "It’s especially good for people like backpackers who move around a lot."
