Goal bounces Boomerangs
A FINAL-minute goal gave Cairns under-19s a thrilling one-point win over the Flying Boomerangs national indigenous under-16s in their AFL encounter at Cazalys.
Cairns scraped home 11.5 (71) to 10.10 (70) with the Flying Boomerangs kicking three points in the final stages to miss out on starting their tour to FNQ, Port Moresby and Lae with a victory on Tuesday.
The Flying Boomerangs have now flown to Papua New Guinea but will take some heart from having fought back from a halftime deficit to come within seconds of snatching victory.
Cairns AFL Queensland indigenous program manager Rick Hanlon said the teams turned on an entertaining affair despite slippery conditions.
The Cairns under-19s showed depth of talent with eight FNQ players away representing the under-18 Queensland Country Kookaburras.
