Coach hard on soft goals

FNQ Bulls coach Peter Tokesi will look for an improved performance in front of goal in his side's Queensland State League soccer clash with Logan United in Brisbane tomorrow.

Tokesi said the Bulls’ inability to finish red-hot chances had cost them dearly in the season opener against Capricorn Cougars last week and he expected his players to learn lessons from the 2-1 defeat. "I’ve told the team that you can lose games in the attacking six-yard box," he said.

"I know we let in a couple of soft goals, and that’s going to happen sometimes, but you have got to be able to score them to win."

Tokesi said he was changing the players’ approach to goal shooting at training where fudged efforts often draw mirth.

"It’s not unique to here, I’ve seen it at other clubs, where the practice at goal scoring is too
casual.

"It’s a bit hit and giggle but I’ll be changing that because it has to be taken more seriously."

Tokesi believed it would take another three to four weeks for him to have the team playing at the level he wants and said that Logan would be a tough assignment at Clem Jones Field tomorrow.

Tokesi has made two forced changes to his side with goalkeeper Angelo Serafin out with a broken finger and attacking weapon Nathan Bird having scans after a forklift ran over his foot at work.

Alex Plowman and Trevor Faddy come into the squad for the clash.

Among those expected to suit up for Logan tomorrow are former Swiss under-19 and Queensland Roar player Remo Buess and Papua New Guinea international Reggie Davani.

Meanwhile, former Cairns star and NQ Razorbacks skipper Paul Sapelli has been given until kick-off to prove his fitness to meet defending champions Sunshine Coast at Kawana on Sunday.

Sapelli suffered a hip flexor injury during the Razorbacks’ 2-1 win over Logan United last weekend.

FNQ Bulls: Daniel Wilesmith, Kane Alderton, Joe Rusch, Damon McLeod, Andre Lohman, Victor Madrid, Glenn Hurney, Dennis Allen, George Koroma, Blake Cremer, Steven Cater, Trevor Faddy, Anthony Mete, Renzo Franco, Alex Plowman.
