Man crushed in cement truck
A 52-year-old man was crushed to death in the back of a concrete truck at Innisfail yesterday afternoon when the mixer drum was started while he was inside.
Emergency services were called to the concrete plant at the corner of Tramway and Cassowary streets about 3pm.
Firefighters worked to free the man who was trapped inside the drum but he died at the scene.
Innisfail police Insp David Tucker said investigations into the death were continuing.
"He was in the back of a cement truck doing maintenance and something has occurred which caused him to be crushed in the back (the mixer)," he said.
Insp Tucker said Workplace Health and Safety officers, in conjunction with Queensland Fire and Rescue and industry professionals were able to extract the person from the vehicle at 7.55pm.
He said the man's body was taken to the Innisfail morgue and was likely to be transported to Cairns early next week for an autopsy.
The man's name has not been released.
