Local Artist Roland Nancarrow presents the opening of his latest exhibition Bird Circles at Merchants Of Fine Objects' (MOFO) new project gallery tonight.

The painter and sculptor’s latest series of wall reliefs are a response to the present man-made economic crisis, which some observers believe may be short-lived but could potentially continue for some time.

The artist’s tropically inspired sculptures pose the questions: is this so called "crisis" just another cyclical phenomenon?

Are the backyard birds, many of whom live by nature’s cycles, taking any notice? Will we continue getting by on a wing and a prayer?

Complementing the exhibition at MOFO is Roland Nancarrow’s other exhibition Windblown Leaves, Bird Circles and Other Backyard Observations, this time at the Cell Art Space at the front of the Ergon Energy building on Lake Street.

>> Bird Circles by Roland Nancarrow opens tonight at Merchants Of Fine Objects/MOFO, 70 McLeod St, Cairns. It runs until April 21. Entry is free. Windblown Leaves, Bird Circles and Other Backyard Observations will exhibit from Wednesday, April 1, until Saturday, April 25. Both exhibitions are free.

Wall relief: Roland Nancarrow is one of the region's best respected sculptors and artists.
