As part of a broader annual program of contemporary media and performance, the On Edge festival will produce the Submerge performance series.

Submerge is a forum for contemporary experimentation and over the coming months, On Edge and the Crate 59 Gallery will host the new series focusing on presenting emerging art-forms and experimental arts practices.

Seven artists will present a program of contemporary, experimental performances using sound, media, video, performance and installation. They are: File_Error, Zane Saunders, Jess Jones, Bitcloud, Hanzard, Nigel Perera and Return Return.

New media artist File_Error, who produces evocative video artworks based on video and audio field recordings, recently performed the DeepNorth audio/video works in Brisbane, while indigenous performance and installation artist Zane Saunders is fresh from a two-week residency in Brisbane.

Submerge will see the return of one of Cairns’ original experimental sound artists, Nigel Perera, from the infamous Godzilla In The Mist band of the early 90s. Electronic artist Bitcloud is half of the former art/pop act Children in the Game and Return Return will present a curious work using old typewriters.

On Edge wants to hear from emerging and established artists interested in performing or presenting as part of the ongoing Submerge series.

>> Submerge takes place tomorrow night at the Crate 59 Gallery. Doors 7pm. Cost is $7/$5 on the door.

Modern art: Zane Saunders is a locally-based performance and installation artist.
