Bulls face Olympic-sized task
FNQ Bulls captain Victor Madrid will not be afraid to raise his voice and utter a few colourful words if it is needed during tonight's match against Olympic FC in Brisbane.
The central defender will be marshalling his backs with heightened vigour to repel the Queensland State League’s most potent forward line.
Olympic FC is undefeated after five matches this season and average just under four goals per game.
Statistics like that would be enough to convince most fullbacks to request a temporary transfer to the forward line but Madrid is confident the Bulls can defend anything thrown at them.
And if they cannot, Madrid is not afraid to address the issue on the field.
"If someone needs a rev they are a going to get it, but being captain as well there is not a lot of point going out there and just screaming and yelling at your teammates," Madrid said.
"As long as it’s constructive, otherwise you are not doing anybody any good. The guys I’ve got either side of me (in the backline), I’m happy to go into any game with.
"They (Olympic) are going to be tough. They’ve got some strikers who know how to score. But I have no doubt we’re a good team."
The Bulls have been forced to rejig their line-up for tonight’s game.
In-form striker Steven Cater is out with a groin strain and will be replaced by Blake Cremer, while defender Gavin Jenkin takes the spot of Kane Alderton, who is getting married this weekend.
Fullback Damon McLeod is also unavailable with the flu.
Despite a few selection dilemmas, Bulls coach Peter Tokesi said he had the players capable of threatening the ladder leaders.
"We’ve named a pretty attacking line-up. We’ve got to be able to absorb their pressure but we have to be able to put them under pressure at the same time," he said.
"We’re not going to die wondering, put it that way."
