Anzac spirit shines through
Lest we forget: The dawn service at the Cairns Esplanade.
CAIRNS was awash with the Anzac spirit as more than 3000 residents swamped the Esplanade this morning.
A light coastal wind pushed and pulled the Australian flag before a crowd of ex-servicemen and women and well-wishers.

Wreaths shrouded the centotaph during the dawn service before the Cairns RSL opened its doors for a light breakfast for all those involved in Australian military duty.
Scores of bands, battalions and squadrons littered the Esplanade for the parade, which wrapped up the service about 9.30am.
Cairns RSL sub-branch president Peter Turner said the large turn out was testament of the day's worth to the public.
"A crowd of more than 3000 came out, I'm very pleased with the number of young Australians who came," he said.
"It's a very special day for Australia. It's when Australia found its true identity."
Fine skies and warm weather greeted the community amid concerns a cloudy forecast would spoil the day.
