Childhood wonder

You won't have to try hard to keep your kids entertained while on holidays in Cairns, with hundreds of activities to keep them busy.
One of the best places to take your children while in Cairns is on a trip to Kuranda and the Atherton Tablelands.
A trip up the Kuranda Range on either the Kuranda Scenic Railway or Skyrail is sure to keep just about every child enthralled, with spectacular bird's eye views of the rainforest.
On reaching the village, Kuranda has a number of animal parks, including a butterfly sanctuary, to entertain the children as well as interesting markets and street theatre for older teens.
There are also several creeks (like the one pictured above) that are great for rock hopping and swimming.
On the Kennedy Highway between Kuranda and Mareeba visitors will find the Cairns Wildlife Safari Reserve with African savannah animals on show.
Almost all wildlife parks will offer family passes – usually for two adults and two children.
Small children will be delighted by the “black and white” cows of the Atherton Tableland as well as the waterfalls and swimming holes that dot the areas around Malanda and Millaa Millaa.
In Atherton itself is Crystal Caves, a combination of shop, museum and fantasy land of rock crystals and geodes - including the world's largest single piece of amethyst in the world.
