Cater a target in derby
IF there is one player in the FNQ Bulls line-up who can count on close personal attention during Saturday night's derby against the North Queensland Razorbacks it is striker Steven Cater.
It is a consequence of success for the 19-year-old who has proven to be an attacking revelation for the Bulls and a pain in the backline and backsides for opposition teams.
Cater is equal third in the race for the 2009 Queensland State League Golden Boot with five goals so far this season. His latest net-finder was the winner in the Bulls’ 1-0 triumph against the Bundaberg Spirit last Saturday.
It was Cater’s first game in more than a fortnight after being sidelined by a quad strain which flared during a shooting drill at training. But after pulling up pain-free, Cater is confident he has recovered from his injury woes.
"It’s 100 per cent. It didn’t bother me at all the other night and it’s still good," Cater said.
"I wasn’t expecting to start but Peter (coach Peter Tokesi) gave me the nod and I was glad to repay his faith by scoring."
The Bulls faithful will hope Cater adds to his tally at Borzi Park on Saturday night with the Razorbacks clash (8pm) shaping as their club’s biggest of the season.
Geographical closeness is not the only factor inspiring the rivalry.
The sides are separated on the ladder by only five points with the Razorbacks sitting fourth and the Bulls sixth.
Add to the mix the Razorbacks have five Far Northern players in their squad and you have the potential for a memorable enounter capable of stirring discussion long after the final whistle.
Cater said the Bulls were conscious about being too pumped for the match and letting their enthusiasm override their discipline and structure.
